Description
EMERAUDE BIO ENERGIE biogas project aims to combine a dense and competitive production area with the increase in environmental and energy challenges. The valorization of the manure for the production of renewable energy will help to keep a competitive pork industry.
The biogas project is located in the industrial area of Lamballe, between the slaughterhouse and the environment industry unit.
It is characterized by the use of a limited number of types of inputs: one physico-chemical sludge from sewage treatment plants of our food industry and also the solid part of droppings livestock from treatment with scraping V (TRAC). The implementation of the present TRAC advantage for a livestock divide by 2 the necessary spreading land. This process captures 55% of nitrogen and 90% of the phosphorus in solid form.
This project is strategical in the group’s activity, it allows:
- To collect the manure produced by pig production
- To treat sludge from pigs that transform provided by farms
- To provide our industry Fertival organic material source for the manufacture of fertilizers
- To supply the area of renewable energy
Added value
This biogas project:
- significantly reduces GHG Emissions: about 27,838 t CO2e are avoided
- requires less Energy Production (52,320 MWh)
- avoids 490 t of nitrogen, which is not applied to land in a concentrated area, but rather is substituted by an organic fertilizer
- avoids 430 tonnes of phosphorus
- Reduces Ammonia NH3 volatilization in pig production by 125 t
Challenges
- The biogas project, based in Lamballe, and supported by the Cooperative COOPERL, locates in a rural area particularly affected by manure deposits and agro-industrial waste, and at the same time also very concerned with the risks associated with very low energy independence of Brittany. Moreover, the region is affected by environmental problems such as eutrophication of coastal waters due to excess nitrates and phosphates. Territorial biogas can participate in solving some of these problems, while creating value.
- The operating revenues are related to the production of bio-methane and the consolidated schema to the sale of fertilizers. The challenge is that operating expenses necessary for the transformation of the digestate are the most widely covered by the revenue from the sale of energy.
